Men Behind the 8 Ball Here I sit late in the evening on Tuesday night reminiscing about the night I had out with the girls. It was a birthday celebration and as usual when you get more than two women together. . .shit the number doesn't matter the truth is women cannot help but to discuss men. But tonight (and over the last few months) as I listened I realized that when we talk about men it's mostly negative, but the majority of the reasons are not legitimate and based on some fear or insecurity we possess and therefore transfer to the opposite sex. Example, tonight one of my friends was being talked up by this gentleman that seemed quite nice, he asked for her number and she turned him down. When I asked why, she replied "he was too short and that makes me feel uncomfortable. . ." I looked at her sideways and said "you are not going to give him a chance because YOU are insecure about your height??" and she said "Yes". Yet she had been talking to us earlier about wanting to find a nice guy...

Women love to say "there are no good men available". Granted good people, however you define that, are hard to find. Now are there men that are down and dirty scoundrels?? Sure, but I don't believe that the majority or even a large percentage of the population fit into that category. So then why do we speak of men as though they are all the same or simply self-sabotage for no reason? I am sure men do the same thing with unrealistic expectations, but being a woman I can honestly say that men have their work cut out for them and no wonder you never know what the hell we are talking about or how we arrive at judgment.
I myself have been on a "Mancation" for a while, not because I am bitter or have been hurt but simply because life has gotten in the way and I had to put romance on the back burner. I have had long term relationships, and one night stands, and as a friend once told me "you are only leasing someone's time, and you never know when that lease is up so just enjoy the ride". I took this advice to heart and have enjoyed myself along the way.
I have come to realize what I want, what others are willing to give (because people don't change) and what I am willing to accept. I try not to find fault in the men I have dated if things didn't work out, unless in the end they were not truthful with themselves or me and wasted our time. But even then I think people tend get wrapped up in the euphoria of someone new and the budding romance and "go along to get along" to only find out later they should have been up front with their needs from the beginning.
My check list is short and free of nonsensical characteristics; eventually I will sign another "lease", enjoy the company of a good man, and will savor the moment(s) we have together. Life is too short, so don't let your list, insecurities, or the opinions of others get in the way of finding the Yin to your Yang. . .corny I know but true :)
